Nrk_13 Rochester, New York Level Contributor 15 reviews 4 helpful votes “Congdon Cabin” Reviewed September 2, 2014 There are over 300 cabins to rent in Allegany State Park in many different areas. Based on reviews here, we chose the Red House section of the park, and the Congdon Loop. Congdon is one long road parallel to one of the main park roads, with a meadow and trees in between. There are 15 cabins on the road. The location is convenient to Red House Lake. Congdon also had a beautiful view of the hills across the way. The cabin itself appeared to be recently refurbished with pine interior and new windows and blinds. The stove and refrigerator also appeared new. There are 2 sets of bunk-beds and a table with benches. The kitchen area has some cabinets for storage. The cabins don’t have running water, there are spigots in between every set of cabins. The bathroom is halfway down the road, so cabins at the end are a pretty long walk.We drove though a few other cabin sites and did not regret our selection. Beehunter loop was near by, but getting to the cabins there required going a few miles down a dirt road.My only complaint is that the cabins had no grills or picnic tables outside. Even though we were in a cabin with a table and stove, we still wanted the camping experience of cooking and eating outside. We ended up buying a disposable charcoal grill at Family Dollar in Salamanca. There was a fire ring made of stacked rocks outside the cabin for campfires. Campfire wood was available at the camp stores in the park, or at the grocery store in Salamanca.
